Why does my radio’s display shut off and restart when I press the PTT button?
Ensure your battery is fully charged.
Batteries degrade over time; consider replacing if more than a few years old.
Measure the battery voltage — readings at or below 6 volts indicate the battery may need replacing.
Can I leave the Yaesu FT-65E on the charger constantly?
It’s best to remove the radio once charging is complete. Charging overnight is fine, but leaving it connected for days can shorten battery life.
How should I store the radio to protect battery life?
Remove the battery if the radio won’t be used for extended periods. Leaving it connected can cause a slow drain, leading to a deeply discharged state that may be irreversible.
What range can I expect from the Yaesu FT-65E?
Range depends on terrain and antenna height. At ground level with the stock antenna, expect 1–2 miles. Elevated use can significantly extend range.
